Major Responsibilities

  • Work with other members of the team to establish and manage strategic, mutually beneficial, relationships with national, international and multinational companies, SMEs and large organizations to maximize the value of industry/KAUST partnerships.
  • Identify key Saudi local players in each research area/sector
  • Identify and fully understand the companies' business motivations/drivers behind potential engagement with KAUST which involves understanding of current and future business strategies
  • Carry out research to match local or global market needs with potential companies (Large an SMEs), and specific technologies
  • Lead strategic relationships with key entities that are relevant to KAUST's areas of strength.
  • Work with VP l&ED on the development and marketing of the relevant KAUST offerings for specific Divisions, Research Centers and Faculty.
  • Create and build awareness of KAUST's technologies and scientific capabilities among industry to benefit KAUST, demonstrating to the industry that engagement with KAUST can lead to innovation and business opportunities.
  • Maximize the potential for industry engagement and strategic partnerships with KAUST, through innovative collaboration that closely links the different KAUST units with industry through the facilitation and development of mutually relevant and beneficial opportunities;
  • Works to develop a team level understanding of KAUST's research competencies.
  • The EconomicDevelopment Manager will ensure that each person develops a clear vision and understanding of the research interests of faculty and the capabilities of both academic division and Research Centers. Further, they will develop a clear vision and understanding of the research interests of all research labs and the Core Laboratories, while maintaining up-to-date information regarding faculty research and science activities
  • Work with the team to attract research collaboration opportunities for KAUST faculty, define,develop and manage solution-oriented, targeted engagements between industry and non­ center-affiliated principal investigators
  • Look for opportunities to suggest to KAUST leadership to present and promote KAUST among industry in different national and international conferences, forums and events with a focus on potential growth opportunities. Lead the identification of key relevant regional conferences and forums to showcase KAUST research capabilities, and provide research centers/groups with access to industry
  • Lead the efforts of attracting companies to establish R&D centers/offices in KRTP.
  • Lead the efforts of attracting companies to pilot and demonstrate technologies in KRTP.
  • Work closely with the KRTP team to ensure smooth tenancy process for companies that wish to have physical presence and/or pilot and demonstrate their technologies
  • Market KAUST technologies to industry for potential licensing, new products, scaling up, and/or creation of start-ups.
  • Provide strategic support to the co-sponsorship of on-campus faculty-led scientific conferences to ensure an industry component in each conference, inviting industry participants and speakers, as well as organizing visits to the l&ED facilities and securing speaking slots for l&ED senior management
  • As necessary, provide strategic support to the participation in other key on-campus engagement platforms to further enhance interaction and engagement with industry (e.g. two Career Events, WEP, REVelate, Investors Forum etc.)
  • Guide, coach and assist junior staff to perform their daily activities and develop skills as appropriate
  • Other tasks and responsibilities as requested by the VP !&ED or Department Heads.
