Job Purpose

 

The Associate Director – Marine Environment will take a leading role in managing marine environment monitoring and research projects in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and internationally. The Associate Director will be responsible to work with clients and develop marine environment related projects accordingly. Specific projects and activities will focus on the long-term monitoring of the marine environment and the development and implementation of marine environment management and conservation plans.

 

The duties will be to explore the basis for strengthening the marine environment conservation and protection in Saudi Arabia using contemporary approaches to ensure marine environment sustainability. The goal is to develop an integrated management framework for institutional intervention in marine environment use patterns, focus on effective mechanisms to maximize and sustain biological, economic and social benefits from the uses of the marine environment in Saudi Arabia. You will be able to provide a justifiable basis for improving the regulatory and policy-making functions of the marine environment agencies. The incumbent will encourage the adoption of novel strategies and innovative technologies for achieving sustainability objectives in the uses of the marine environments in Saudi Arabia.

 

 

Major Accountabilities

 

  • Lead Marine Environment Projects.

 

  • Act as Lead author for Marine Environment reports.

 

  • Prepare of proposals for Marine Environment surveys, monitoring and research proposals.

 

  • Development and delivery of Marine Environment projects from conception through to permitting.

 

  • Project management of Marine Environment projects, including the coordination of inputs from subject matter experts, field survey personnel and consultants.

 

  • Work with clients and contracted consultants to develop Marine Environment projects and their implementation in the field for effective conservation, and management of the Marine Environment.

 

  • Management of budget and schedule performance.

 

  • Review the existing Marine Environment conservation and protection regulations in KSA.

 

Person Requirements

Competencies

 

  • Strong marine background.
  • Experience in the development and implementation of Environmental Impact Assessments.
  • Must be completely fluent (spoken / written) in English.
  • Project management skills, including schedule, staff resource and budget management.
  • Have the ability to consistently deliver work on time.
  • Good communication skills.
  • A flexible and dynamic approach including the ability to work independently as well as coordinate within a team.
  • An ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic team and environment.
  • Strong communication, commercial, quantitative and analytical skills.

 

Qualifications

 

  • MSc. or Ph.D. in Marine Environment, or a related subject.

 

Experience

 

  • 12+ years’ experience working in Marine Environment projects.
  • Must be completely fluent (spoken / written) in English.
