Job Purpose

 

The Senior Financial Specialist “Projects” - Fixed Assets Accounting & Reporting is responsible for monthly reconciliations, financial reporting, external and internal audits, annual projects for asset impairment assessment, investment property valuation, physical inventory and fixed assets information for the insurance department. Responsible to ensure the integrity of the financial database of all KAUST assets and compliance with IFRS and Financial Regulations policy, Fixed Assets Accounting and Reporting procedure, and processes. Responsible for providing advice to Asset Support teams, Capital Budgeting and Engineering (PDEC) teams on financial issues related to asset life cycle activities.   

 

 

Major Accountabilities

 

  • Manage Yearly Asset Impairment assessment Project, which includes, preparation of information based on defined criteria, dissemination of information to proponents, conduct random testing, consolidating and publishing results, update SAP with required adjustments. 
  • Manage yearly Valuation Project, which includes, finalization of items requiring valuation, liaise with external valuation company to conduct the valuation, resolve queries, finalize outcome and results. 
  • Manage yearly Project for providing information to Insurance team as per required criteria and resolving any queries.  
  • Manage Biennial Physical Inventory Project, which includes preparation of information based on defined criteria, dissemination of information to proponents, review the count results, investigate variances, consolidate and publish results, update SAP with required adjustments. 
  • Ensure month end and year end activities are conducted on time
  • Prepare monthly and yearly Fixed Assets and Investment properties schedules and analysis 
  • Prepare Fixed Assets and Investment properties reconciliations to GL 
  • Prepare updates to Plant Maintenance Information and disseminate information to proponents  Help and support other team members in daily operations and month end and year end reporting. 
  • Communication with Internal & External Audit Teams, preparing and resolving queries. 
  • Develop, document and implement the financial regulation policy, Fixed Assets Accounting and Reporting procedure, and processes in the University through confirmation with proponents. 
  • Provide recommendations to senior management on ways to improve operations and controls. 
  • Review Fixed Assets business processes and systems with the view to improving accuracy and efficiency and continuously look for improvement opportunities in the University’s asset operations. 
  • Collaborate with Department Managers with the planning and evaluation of capital works and asset accounting.
  • Coordinate with asset support teams across the university, working with all proponents and key stakeholders for asset life cycle activities. 
  • Perform ad hoc projects as and when they arise.

  • Comprehensive understanding of best practice in Fixed Assets Accounting and Reporting and related business processes in compliance with International Accounting Standards 
  • Experience in developing and implementing new policies, procedures, and systems. 
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to effectively communicate business and accounting concepts to colleagues and non-finance professionals at all levels. 
  • Lateral thinker with superior consulting skills to inform, facilitate and expedite decision making. 
  • Advance Knowledge of Microsoft Office in particular, Excel, PowerPoint, Word etc. 
  • Experience using & understanding of SAP S4 HANA FA & GL Module.

 

Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration or related major. 
  • Preferred, but not required, to have full membership in a recognized professional accountancy body (CPA, ACA, ACMA, CMA and/or ACCA).

 

Experience

 

  • A minimum of eight years in fixed assets and financial accounting and reporting in a complex environment.
  • Experience within a large complex organizational setting.  
  • Experience in the use of ERP (preferably SAP) accounting systems.  
  • Intermediate to advanced MS Office (Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint) skills.  
  • Excellent knowledge of accounting principles, business and system processes.  
  • Tenacity to achieve results. 
  • Exceptional multi-tasking skills to meet tight deadlines. 
  • Ability to lead and develop a team effectively.
